Level 2 Welding - SMAW Structural Steel
This course is intended for the student who wants to progress to an advanced level of welding processes leading toward certification. This course offers specialized training and instruction, aimed at developing those skills necessary to take and pass the performance test portion as required by the American Welding Society and the City of Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS) Certified Welder Examination. Due to this course being highly dependent on the individual progress of the student, it will primarily emphasize specific skills in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), as it applies to Certification in Structural Steel. The course will also focus on safety, welding codes, test preparation, procedures, and destructive testing. Special emphasis will be placed on developing proficiency in order to successfully pass the AWS/LADBS performance exam.
Successfully passing this course, the Vertical (3G) performance test, coupled with passing the Overhead (4G) performance test, will qualify the applicant for LADBS Welder Certification.* LADBS Welder Certification requires a student to successfully pass the performance welding test (Vertical and Overhead plate tests) and the Department Written Exam.
NOTE: LADBS also requires welders to have passed the performance examination in the manual or SMAW process prior to issuing a semi-automatic (FCAW) certification.
