Level 1 GTAW
Level 1 Welding is a beginning Gas Tungsten Arc Welding workshop designed for the student who has little-to-no experience in welding, or who has had a long absence from welding. The workshop is designed to teach the safe use and operation of welding machines and equipment and proper welding technique. Students will begin by learning basic GTAW equipment and how to safely and effectively use it. Students will begin to learn how to properly strike an arc and perform basic welding exercises to develop skills. Next, students will advance to learning the ins-and-outs of welding using filler metal and will begin to lay down weld beads and padding to develop skill and technique. Then, students will be taught how to weld with thicker gauge sheet metal material in order to learn how to control the "puddle" and heat. Finally, students will learn to weld basic joints such as T, lap, corner, and butt, in the Flat the Horizontal positions.
The short term goal of this workshop is to prepare the student for advancement to the Level 2 GTAW Welding Workshop and beyond.

The course is offered in an "open enrollment" format, which allows a students to begin whenever space is available. Please check our calendar listing for availability.
Students must provide their own welding helmet, jacket or sleeves, proper GTAW gloves, and must wear 100% cotton, full length pants and clothing, as well as leather boots or shoes, and safety glasses, which must be worn at all times while in the shop.
