AWS Welder's Continuity Program
AWS Welder's Continuity Program
This program is designed to assist welders who have qualified according to the standards set forth by the AWS concerning Periods of Effectiveness for Certified Welders. The period of effectiveness for any welder’s qualification shall be considered as remaining in effect indefinitely unless (1) the welder is not engaged in a given process of welding for which the welder is qualified for a period exceeding six months (12 months for AWS D9.1: Sheet metal).
Under usual and customary circumstances, a welder’s employer (contractor or manufacturer) will usually document that the welder is in fact engaged in the given process that he is qualified, on a regular interval so as to keep continuity of the welder’s qualification.
Unfortunately, there are many instances where an employer fails to properly keep records to that effect, or there are instances where a qualified welder is not engaged in the process to which he qualified for, or possibly not employed. If this occurs your period of effectiveness will lapse, and YOU WILL NO LONGER BE A CERTIFIED WELDER, until you re-test!
The Program
WCC will offer a program wherein welders can perform a test weld in the presence of an AWS, CWI, which will be documented, and retained by WCC.
